Temple Christian Academy (TCA) exists only because of the vision of God’s people at Gracepointe Baptist Church (formerly known as Victory Baptist Church), a vision that arose as a result of the moral decay of postmodern society. As godly parents began to see children led away by the harmful influences in our culture, forsaking the heritage they had in the Christian faith, many recognized that it was time to fight those influences through the Scripture’s call to “renew our minds.” More and more parents began to realize that the schools to which they were sending their children for over thirty hours each week were working against the most important thing they were trying to instill in their children—their faith in God.
Many parents tried to teach their own children but found that they lacked the expertise and time to do justice to their children’s education. Something had to be done to help the parents who were struggling to train their children as the Bible commands (Deuteronomy 6:5-7; Proverbs 22:6).
The solution was found in creating their own school, a school in which godly teachers could not only provide the expertise in education, but also provide what they really needed—assistance in strengthening their children’s faith. Instead of having to undo all the damage that was being done in state schools, parents could now give their children encouragement in the faith without even being there!
Therefore, TCA was not merely created as an institution to teach kids how to read and write, but as an active partner in the fight for the child’s heart, a fight for building his faith.
TCA does not seek to replace parents. We are the parent’s helper, an arm of the home and church, helping parents in “fighting the good fight of faith.” In fact, TCA cannot do anything for a child alone. We are dependent on the consistent teaching and training in the home and in church. Our desire is not to be a cure, a “magic bullet” to create good children. No school is able to bear the strain of responsibility that is cultivated by consistent, loving parental discipline. Our hope is to be a helper, a means of grace in the life of the child, aiding parents in fulfilling the Biblical responsibility of teaching their children.
Our vision is to first and foremost be faithful to Christ, and to His command to love God with “all our mind.” The world is always vying for the hearts of children, to draw them away with their idols, to call them to worship the false gods of the culture. As educators, our passion is to teach children about the world in such a way that it reinforces the Christian faith. We work to strive to help children develop a Biblical worldview, to take “every thought captive to obey Christ.” That is our mission as a school, to teach children to think well, and to think in a way that is faithful to the ancient Scriptures. May God help us work together, the school as the humble servant of the home and church. May God give parents the grace to grow godly, disciplined children in this present evil age, and may He use our school as an instrument to aid parents in doing such.
